Going Global Partnership: UK-China-ASEAN  

The Going Global Partnership: UK-China-ASEAN aims to increase collaboration among institutions in the UK-CHINA-ASEAN countries through strategic, sustainable partnerships which develop student experience and mobility, academic communications, leadership skills and teaching excellence via blended/ digital delivery.  

Colleagues from the school delivered one of six winning proposals for the Going Global Partnership: UK-China-ASEAN. In December they sat on the project’s workshop panel. 

Dr Ruoyu Jin, Mr Ismail Bayyati, Mr Navpreet Chohan and Dr Zulfikar Adamu partnered with academics from Chang’an University China and Ho Chi Min University of Technology to deliver. The Integrated Built Environment Teaching and Learning in the Joint Curriculum Development and Digital-Driven Industry 4.0 among China, Vietnam, and UK Workshop.                                                              

The School’s Dean, Professor George Ofori gave an opening address to begin the event, followed by talks from a range of professionals and academics from across the UK, China, and ASEAN regions. The workshop was attended by 140 international professionals and academics.  

Speakers included: 

  • Philipp Mueller, AutoDesk: Bim360 For Digital Construction Education 

 Mr. Mueller is the Head of Global Strategic Alliances at Autodesk Education and is a further and Higher Education Expert with 10+ years Manufacturing, Construction, and IT Industry Experience. Mueller is heading the WorldSkills International Global Partnership, empowering countries to prepare students for the future of work within construction, manufacturing, media, and entertainment. Prior to joining Autodesk he studied Architecture Technology at the Technical University of Graz and created YouTube Tutorials focused on Building Information Modelling which quickly reached over 2M views worldwide. 

 

  • Professor Duc-Hoc Tran, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology:  Ontology for Educational Framework in Global Bim-Based Education

Professor Tran, Deputy Director of BIM Lab, Associate Professor of Construction Engineering and Management Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. International award winner, Prof. Tran specialises in Computer Application in Construction Management (Virtual Construction Management, Building Information Modelling BIM, 3D Laser Scanning, Smart City, Digital Twin City). Over the last 5 years she has had 6 funded projects spanning these themes and over 70 peer reviewed scholarly publications. 

 

  • Dr M. Reza Hosseini, Deakin University: Towards a Minimum Requirements Framework for Digital Engineering Education at  Australian Universities 

 Dr Hosseini is the Associate Head of School (research) at the School of Architecture and Built Environment, Deakin University and a research fellow of the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning (CRADLE). He is a Civil Engineer with 12 years of experience working in various areas of the construction industry, before becoming an academic. His expertise includes Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Digital Engineering. He has published around 200 papers and book chapters, with 60 of them around various areas of Digital Engineering (DE) 

 

  • Professor Song Wu, Nottingham Trent University:  Bridging Higher Education and Industry Practice in Digital Built Environment 

Professor Wu is an internationally leading researcher in digital construction with more than 20 years’ experience in the UK higher education sector focussed on computer modelling and data analysis in the built and human environment. Currently his research interest is reality computing and Artificial Intelligence which covers 3D scanning, UAV data capture, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, serious game technology and machine learning. He recently secured over £2.5m research grant including an AHRC serious game to combat gender-based violence, Innovate UK KTP project and Highway England, Network Rail research in those areas.
