The exceptional work of two LSBU Architecture Apprenticeship students who work at international design firm, Scott Brownrigg, was recognised at the WCCA Architecture Apprentice Awards 2024 with:
The Institute of Acoustics (IOA) London Branch held its first meeting of the year at London South Bank University (LBSU) on 17th January 2024. Two of the best 2022-23 IOA Diploma student projects at LSBU were shortlisted to present their final projects as part of the annual NTI-Audio sponsored best final project award competition. The students shortlisted and their topics were: Rebecca Page on Impact Noise and Vibration Induced by Deadlifts and Rhiannon Hawkins on Acoustic design of heritage school buildings
Sponsor of the award NTI-Audio UK Managing director Charles Greene and LSBU IOA Diploma course director Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina presented the award to the joyous winner: Rebecca Page.
This year’s event has marked the sixth anniversary of this successful award. The hybrid meeting was well attended by a mix of senior consultants, academics, acoustics students and alumni. On 07 November 2023 Sound Art undergraduate students from the London College of Communications (University of Arts London) attended a seminar on Acoustics delivered by Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina. The students and their course leader were delighted by the experiential learning and auditory demonstrations taken place at different locations of the LSBU Acoustics Laboratory.
With this seminar we hope that both institutions and their sound related courses become better known to each other.
The “PGR End of Year Event” took place on 8th December 2023.
The event showcased the diverse research fields that the students are undertaking and celebrated the diversity of the PhD cohort.
The event was a huge success and was widely attended. Prizes were awarded to the five best poster presentations.
This event celebrated our PGR students and supports the development of a lasting research culture that will benefit everyone, especially the PGR students.

CIAT is pleased to announce that London South Bank University (LSBU) is the first higher education institution in England to have its apprenticeship Programme Accredited. The University has been awarded Accredited status for its BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology (Design and Construction Management Apprenticeship).
An apprenticeship is a route into a profession which provides individuals the opportunity to combine working in a relevant field with studying for a formal qualification. Due to the vocational nature of the built environment and the Architectural Technology profession, apprenticeships are a way of gaining relevant work experience as well as the necessary underpinning knowledge to become a valued, competent professional.
Those enrolled on the Design and Construction Management Apprenticeship at LSBU will gain a BSc (Honours) Architectural Technology degree which is three years in length and contains a mixture of lectures, tutorials,
Patrick Spiers, student of the 2022-23 MSc in Environmental and Architectural Acoustics at London South Bank University (LSBU) has been awarded the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) Robert Bradford student medal. The Robert Bradford Newman Student Medal for Merit in Architectural Acoustics, recognizes excellence in the study of acoustics and its application to architecture. The scheme honours outstanding students at schools of architecture and architectural engineering throughout the world. The judging panel based their decision on Patrick’s MSc Final research project dissertation. He was presented the medal on the day of his MSc graduation, 01 Nov 2023, by the final project supervisor and current course leader Dr Luis Gomez-Agustina and the Associate Dean for Student experience Dr Alex Paurine. Many congratulations Patrick!
On the 25th October 2023 at the Palace of Westminster, Trudy Harrison MP, Under Secretary of State for the Natural Environment, awarded LSBU PhD candidate Alec Korchev the Noise Abatement Society John Connell Rising Star award.
Alec, a former student of the Masters’ programme for Environmental and Architectural Acoustics, won for leading the Association of Noise Consultants Mentoring Scheme and for chairing the newly formed Institute of Acoustics Student Body, as well as for his research on creak in tall buildings.
The event was hosted by Sir Peter Bottomley MP.
Well done to Alec and of course to his sponsor Clarke Saunders Acoustics.
Last week, LSBU Careers Hub successfully organised another edition of the BEA Autumn Careers Fair.
This year, due to a record 60 industrial partners attending, the fair extended over two days, where employers from Civil and Building Services Engineering (October 10) and Architecture and Construction, Property and Surveying (October 12) visited LSBU to share 1525 job opportunities with over 300 LSBU students that attended the fair.
These were a vibrant couple of days that demonstrated LSBU’s commitment to high-quality student employment.
